| Description: | Photos show views of the granite historical marker located at the extreme northeast corner of the Upper Common at the corner of Main and Church Streets. Photos taken at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, 2007. "In memory of Cornelius Sweetser, born in Wakefield 6 April 1808, died in Saco 20 December 1881, Enterprising and sagacious man of business, faithful public servant, generous contributor to many works of charity, religion and education, founder of the lecture course, and promoter of this park in his native town. 'And so to live that when the sun - of our existence sinks in night - memorials sweet of mercies done - may shrine our names in mem'ry's light - and blest the seeds we scattered bloom - a hundred-fold in days to come.'" - text from north (front) side of monument.
