| Abstract: | Wakefield's old Town Hall stood at the corner of Main and Water streets. Industrialist Cyrus Wakefield donated the land and a sum of money to build the Town Hall. In appreciation, the townspeople voted to change the name of the town from South Reading to Wakefield in 1868. Behind the Town Hall to the right is the Miller Piano factory. To the left, is the Taylor Building. The Town Hall was torn down in 1958. A municipal parking lot occupies the block today. |
